Chippewas of the Thames stands with the Standing Rock Sioux against DAPL
On September 3, 2016, Councillor George Henry and a delegation of Indigenous people from the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation were joined by members of Chippewas Solidarity in Sacred Stone Camp in North Dakota.
Councillor Henry presented Dave Archambault II, Chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, with a letter of support from the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation. Chippewas of the Thames are currently taking the Government of Canada to the Supreme Court over their failure to consult with them over the Line 9 pipeline reversal. Line 9 is an Enbridge pipeline. Enbridge recently bought in to the Dakota Access pipeline.
During the visit there was a call to respond to DAPL workers that had started construction and were destroying sacred sites. Chippewas of the Thames responded.
Chippewas of the Thames First Nation stands in Solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. Chippewas of the Thames First Nation also supports Chairman Archambault’s commitment to non-violent resistance and congratulate him and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe on their spiritual, moral and ecological victory.
