Support

Support

There are several ways to support the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation in their Supreme Court challenge. This campaign can only succeed if lots of us pitch in with donations and support, large and small. This is a great opportunity to reach out to your friends, family, and neighbours to bring people together in support. Build a strong community as you build support for COTTFN!

Be an agent of change

Bring together your friends, family, colleagues, or community for a fundraising and educational event! Hosting events like dinners, movies, and concerts is a great way to spread the word, deepen community bonds, and raise money, and have fun while you’re doing it. Be creative--there’s no limit to the kinds of events you can hold to raise awareness and funds for the campaign. But we’ve got a planning kit with example events to get you started!

Spread the word

If you represent or are involved in an organisation or a large group, invite a representative from Chippewas of the Thames First Nation or Chippewas Solidarity to speak to your group or organisation.

Teachers-- invite a speaker into your class! Get in touch with us to plan a talk about the Line 9 challenge for your students.

Involve your workplace, place of worship, or school.

Ask your workplace, union, or place of worship to donate to the Chippewas of the Thames supreme court challenge fundraising efforts (all donations are tax deductible). If your workplace makes charitable donations, ask them to donate to COTTFN. Invite your colleagues or fellow members to contribute individually as well. Host a summer barbeque to bring people together and raise funds while sharing a meal!

If your workplace has a common area, invite your colleagues to host weekly soup lunches that you can take turns cooking and contributing a donation for. Most unions have a solidarity fund. Ask your union rep if yours does, and how you can propose that some of it be donated to the COTTFN legal challenge. If your place of worship takes collection, approach them about contributing one week’s funds to the COTTFN legal challenge.

Student Unions and PIRGs

Are you part of a student union or PIRG? If you go to college or university in Canada, you probably are! These organisations are excellent groups to approach to support campaigns like this. You can encourage them to make a donation (search for funding forms on their site), or better yet, add an event to the mix and spread the word on campus.

If you’re not sure how to request funds or make an event, get in touch with your student union’s internal rep or your PIRG’s volunteer coordinator. If you need support, get in touch! We’re happy to help.

Thank you for your support!

The Chippewas of the Thames First Nations and Chippewas Solidarity want to acknowledge all the contributions of all those who have supported the campaign either financially and/or with their time and skills.
